BRONZE 1 SWIMMERS BREAK 19 YEAR OLD TSC CLUB RECORDS

9 year old Aleksa Gold (B1) broke two TSC girls 10-and-under short course records in the month of December. At the TSC Time Trial hosted on December 1st at Riverdale C.I., Aleksa broke a 19 year old club record in the 400 IM swimming a time of 6:07.47 The previous best was held by Suzanna de Moor with a time of 6:12.42. This ranks Aleksa sixth in this event in the girls 10-and-under age group in Canada. At the Mississauga Open meet Aleksa continued her success by breaking the 800m FR record with a time of 11:06.48 ranking her third overall in her age group in Canada. The previous best was held by her sister Vanessa Gold with a time of 11:34.21.

9 year old Jacob Rothery (B1) had a near technically perfect race by shattering the TSC boys 10-and-under 800m FR short course record at the Mississauga Open meet with a time of 10:55.64. The previous record was held for 19 years by D'Arcy O'Connor with a time of 11:42.06. This ranks Jacob first overall in Canada in the boys 10-and-under age group.

Congratulations to Aleksa and Jacob on their huge accomplishments in long distance swimming. Great technique pays off!

2009 Swim Ontario Fundamentals Swim Camp
Four 12-and-under Toronto Swim Club swimmers were selected to the one-day camp on November 28th during the Canada Cup meet at Etobicoke Olympium. The camp was hosted by Swim Ontario. Eighty Provincial-A swimmers from Ontario participated including Victor Delac Head Development Coach who was invited to lead a core strength conditioning workshop. 2009 True Blue Camp
A collaborative effort between Mississauga Aquatic Club and Toronto Swim Club took place on Saturday December 5th at UTM Athletic Centre Pool. The objective of the True Blue Camp was to enhance the experience for our Bronze 1, Bronze 2, Bronze 3 and Silver 3 swimmers and develop a strong camaraderie between our two premiere Ontario clubs. Our partnership showcases the common understanding that we have towards excellence and commitment in the sport of swimming. Victor Delač (TSC Head Development Coach) and Andrea Pittis (MSSAC Age Group Coach) organized the swim camp. The camp consisted of stroke improvement, core strength exercises, fun relays, and concluded with a round-robin water polo tournament.

The sportsmanship and positive feedback from swimmers demonstrated that the True Blue Camp was a success. Discussion is in place to set up an annual one-day camp with MSSAC next year. A big thank you goes out to assistant coaches Ashley Bradbury and Leslie Macumber for their help on the deck.

This past weekend, Edward Liu (National Group) represented Ontario as a member of Swim Ontario's Youth Tour Team at the Paul Bergen Junior International SC Championship in Portland, Oregon. Coach Victor Delac also attended the meet as a Mentor Coach.

New Level IV Official

Congratulations to Laura Pratt,who achieved her Level IV Officiating Certification this past weekend! To achieve Level IV requires a great deal of time and commitment, including active participation as a Level III for a minimum of one year, working a minimum of 5 meet sessions as a referee at which one needs to receive favourable evaluations from master officials, and conducting several clinics. Laura is now qualified to be a Session Referee at any swim meet. This will be a great benefit for TSC; previously we were reliant on the help of senior level officials from outside of the Club. Also, Swim Ontario requires that each Club have a certain number of senior officials within its membership in order to obtain meet sanctioning. Having Laura as a senior level official will ensure that TSC can continue to run meets.

The Club is in need of more officials at all levels, but particularly at level 2 and level 3. In fact, we view this so importantly that we provide anyone with level 2 or higher a high quality white shirt for meets, free of charge, and, for acquiring level 4, offer 10% off of the registration of the swimmer in your family who is in the highest swim group level. Remember, without you, our swimmers can not swim in the meets and time trials they need to meet their goals. To learn more about moving up the ladder visit:Swim Ontario
