Summer 2009 Open Water Results
Zsofi Balazs,19,finished 33rd in the 10 kilometer open water race at the 2009 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Rome. Canada fielded two of the youngest entries in this event.

"I really liked how I finished my race, this is a real confidence boost," said Balazs."For me it was very important to stick with the pack. The key point for me was when the wind picked up and made the water a bit choppy, I adjusted my stroke to ensure that it stayed well balanced" Full Story


Heather Maitland (TSC/UofT Varsity team) won the bronze medal in the women's 10 kilometre race on Thursday July, 24 at the FINA WORLD CUP open water event held in Roberval, Quebec. Maitland clocked two hours and 14 minutes and 19 seconds. TSC'/UofT Varsity swimmer Stephanie Hassell placed 4th overall. Full Story

NATIONAL CHAMPION DAVID RILEY
Riley won the 100 Breast, 200 Breast and 5km open water event.

The 2009 CANADIAN AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS took place from Wednesday July 15 to Monday July 20 at the Parc Jean Drapeau in Montreal, Quebec. Over 1500 of Canada's finest Age Group swimmers (aged 18 and under), including 30 Toronto Swim Club swimmers competed in this prestigious event. TSC finished 8th place overall out of the 208 teams represented at the meet. TSC won a total of 20 medals: 5 Gold, 7 Silver, 8 Bronze. 16 new club records were set! Job well done to all swimmers.

Congratulations to our new Age Group National Champion David Riley. Riley celebrated his birthday weekend with very impressive performances, taking home 3 individual gold medals and 2 bronze medals.Swimming Canada News

Our 14-15 boys also brought home two gold medals in the 4x100 Free and 4x100 Medley relays. Congratulations Edward Liu, Sean Domingo, Evan Skwara, Andre Pond and Bryce Chen.

BALAZS AND DORIAN MEDAL AT OPEN WATER CHAMPS


On Monday, July 6th over 130 swimmers competed in the 2009 Swim Ontario Open Water Championships at the Professors Lake in Brampton.TSC had 5 athletes participate in this event.Zsofi Balazs (National group), David Dorian (National group), Emma Crossey (Gold 2), Harry Critchley (Gold 2) swam in the 5km event. Camilo Deller-Borgono (S2) swam the 3km event.

On the women's side Balazs won the GOLD medal in a time of 1:03.54.On the men's side Dorian took home the SILVER medal in a time of 1:03.42.Congratulations to this years medalist! Swim Ontario Report
TSC wins "Pound for Pound Award"
Congratulations to all TSC swimmers who participated at the 2009 LC Junior and PARA Provincial Championships in London Ontario July 2nd-5th. TSC won the best performing team award ("Pound for Pound Award"). This was calculated by totaling only medal performances and adding it to the total number of swimmers entered per team.

University of Toronto Launches High Performance Training Centre

University of Toronto High Performance Centre is excited about the hiring of John Rodgers as the Centre's Coach. TSC is thrilled about the opportunity to work alongside the Centre and forging a relationship that will lead to even higher levels of Swimming Excellence.

Rodgers has been the head coach of the Albany Creek Swim Club in Brisbane, Australia, since 1999 and as led several swimmers to the Olympic podium over the past 25 years. Most recently, he coached Kylie Palmer and Bronte Barratt to a gold medal and world record performance in the women's 4x200m freestyle at the 2008 Olympic Games. He was also instrumental in Leith Brodie's bronze medal performance in the 4x200m freestyle in Beijing. Read more

Record Breaker at TSC Time Trial #3
The 10 and under girls were at it again setting two new TSC club records. Congratulations goes to 9-year-old Aleksa Gold (Bronze 1) who established her very first individual long course club record in the 800m FR. She swam a time of 11:32.67 (this ranks her 9th overall in Canada). Aleksa said after her race "it felt easy".

With Alexis Bragman, Vanessa Gold and Yulhee Kim aging up our young 10-and-under girls took the challenge to keep the record breaking streak alive. In the 400m LC Medley Relay Aleksa Gold (BK), Freya Wright (BR), Lucy Straszynski (FLY), and Christiane Konstantopolous (FR) broke the club record. Congratulations girls!

First time Junior Provincial Championship qualifiers are: Renee Corbier, Christiane Konstantopoulos, Kamen Stefanov, and Jacob Rothery. Congratulations B1 swimmers. Nine-year-old Jacob Rothery is the youngest boy in TSC history to race the 800m FR at the time trial with a time of 12:09.31 (this ranks him 9th overall in Canada). In this years LC Junior Provincial Championship he will be the youngest boy to race in Ontario.
